Massage
at St Antony's Priory |
Massage
is as old as humanity itself. What is more spontaneous or natural
than rubbing or holding a hurt?
Tension patterns can run deeply
in muscles and soft tissues, creating pain and dysfunction. Massage
can benefit you by releasing chronic muscle tension. It can improve joint
flexibility and circulation and encourage injured
muscle tissue to heal. The harmful effects of stress can be
reduced by facilitating
a deeper state of relaxation of mind and body and by providing a
caring and nurturing touch.
The holistic massage
offered at St Antony's Priory is a wholesome and
therapeutic treatment, based on traditional Swedish massage that aims
to take into account the whole person, not just the body.
Carole Prestedge
has been massaging since she qualified
in 1994, and practicing professionally since 2000.
She
writes: "I notice that my
approach is becoming more person-centred as I recognise that
individuals respond to massage in their unique way. What is
required of me is that I adapt to that.
"My aim is
for every massage to be a positive and nurturing experience. I look
forward to working together with each person in a creative and purposeful way."
Massage sessions
at the Priory will normally last for an hour and will be
individually tailored to suit each person's needs and mood.
As well as offering
general relaxation massage, Carole can also work on specific problem areas
using a variety of muscle therapy and deep tissue techniques. She may
incorporate stretching of muscles or passive mobilisation of a joint
and use breathing awareness to enhance the massage. Massage is
suitable for most people of all ages. However, there may be certain
circumstances where some caution is required.
