| In the last 25
years, the gifts of
Ignatian spirituality have been received by countless people of every
tradition through various means. Authors like Gerard Hughes SJ and
Margaret Silf have ben widely read; and many have taken part in retreats
of varying lengths.
In the local setting,
Weeks of Guided Prayer and the Spiritual Exercises given in daily life
have introduced many to the spiritual life, deepening their experience
of God and stimulating a more committed way of living.
St Antony's Priory is now
offering the opportunity to participate in the praying of the Spiritual
Exercises in daily life through a group experience from September
2010 through to the summer of 2011. The groups will meet every two
weeks on agreed dates. Each group will number no more than five people,
including an experienced facilitator,
so that each person can participate and share to the maximum. It will be
a "listening group" in which each person offering their
experience will be heard without comment in the first instance.
Expectations
Participants can expect a deepening of their prayer through exposure to
a variety of ways of praying and reflecting - all with the intention of
being made free to love and serve God in the unique circumstances of
each person's life. The facilitators will be Paul Golightly, Director of
St Antony's, and other staff members.
Each participant will in
turn be expected to commit to pray for at least half-an-hour a day,
using material introduced by the facilitator. He or she will also be
expected to attend every session (unless unforeseen things happen), and
to participate as fully as possible. Strict confidentiality is an
important group norm.
Resource
The book "Moment by Moment" by Carol Anne Smith and
Eugene F. Metz SJ will help participants through the Spiritual Exercises
in 32 sections. It is hoped to offer morning, afternoon and evening
sessions. Please contact St Antony's if you would like to explore the
available options.
