        Events at the Priory

Prayer and Movement      The conventional idea of prayer as something essentially physically passive doesn't suit everyone. This series of short workshops is designed to help develop the body as a medium for prayer and to expand the range of the ways we pray.

Paul Golightly leads the workshops in the Priory's chapel and they are followed by a brief, informal chat over a cup of tea.

The workshops take place on Wednesday evenings at the Priory from 7.00pm to around 8.30 on

  • May 7
  • June 4

Friday at the Priory     The Priory is deeply committed to accepting all regardless of race, gender, religion or Christian denomination. It is also committed to exploring ways new and old of developing the spiritual life of all.

Part of that commitment is an ongoing series of short worship sessions using unconventional settings and modes. Those who lead this worship take care to make everyone as comfortable as possible with the unfamiliar.

The worship events start at 6.30pm and usually end by 7.30 or sooner, followed by a brief, informal gathering for refreshments. In the first half of 2007, the events are as follows, starting at 6.30pm:

  • June 6:           Creation Liturgy for Summer

Women's Spirituality Group   A group of Christian women offer each other mutual support through sharing, discussion and worship as they explore their spirituality together.

The group meets at the Priory about every six weeks, setting the date for the next meeting on each occasion. If you are interested in joining, please email Julia Brown at ...  *

Circle Dance  In the West, dancing is a little-used but entirely natural part of spirituality. The sessions in 2008 will take place in the Priory Chapel. Each will explore a different form of prayer. There will be gentle dances to quieten, balance and bring a sense of inner peace. Worshipful dances will aim to express longings and receive blessing, while intercessory dances aim to help participants remember others and the world in which we live. Yet other dances will express the everyday activities and joys of life. None require any previous experience of dance. Facilitator Judy Turner will share the dances she finds helpful and give the opportunity to anyone who wants to do the same. Her aim is to respond to the desires of those who come. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
